  Join AAHI’s Health Education Ambassador & Liaison (H.E.A.L.) Program today!

  H.E.A.L Volunteers
  About the Program The Health Education Ambassador & Liaison (H.E.A.L.) Program is a volunteer initiative led by the Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI). It aims to reduce health disparities and improve access to care for underserved Asian American communities in Montgomery County, MD. H.E.A.L. Ambassadors serve as trusted community liaisons, helping to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps in health education and services.     
  
  As a H.E.A.L. Volunteer, you will:

  • Engage in Community Outreach: Participate in health fairs, cultural events, and outreach activities to promote health awareness.
  • Provide Health Education: Share culturally appropriate health information with isolated or underserved community members.
  • Support in Multiple Languages: Offer bilingual assistance to AAHI staff and community members to ensure effective communication when needed.
  • Connect Residents to Resources: Help individuals navigate and access local health and social services.
  • Attend Training & Meetings: Participate in orientation, ongoing training sessions, and team meetings to stay informed.

  Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit a minimum of 3-5 hours per month when needed.
  • Available to support some weekends and evening outreach in Montgomery County, MD.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and another Asian language (Chinese, Bangla, Burmese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Nepali, Sinhala, Tagalog, Thai, Urdu, Vietnamese, etc.)
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be a self-starter willing to work independently as well as in a group setting.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • No prior background in the health field necessary.
  • Respond to our readiness alerts.
  • Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation.

  The goal of the AAHI Internship Program is to provide students and recent graduates with hands-on experience and insight into the dynamics of community health. The program presents students with a multifaceted opportunity to learn about public health from a community-based approach.

  The goal of the AAHI Speakers Bureau volunteer program is to have a pool of multilingual guest speakers with expertise in a wide range of health and wellness-related areas available to speak to the Asian American community in Montgomery County, MD. If you are a health, wellness, or medical professional, we invite you to please join our Speakers Bureau by completing the interest form here.

• Steering Committee Membership

  The AAHI Steering Committee is made up of a group of stakeholders from the local community who use their expertise to advise, advocate, and assist AAHI in its efforts to engage with and promote health and wellness among Asian American residents of Montgomery County.

  The professionally and ethnically diverse Steering Committee members include community leaders, public health professionals, representatives of Asian American organizations, and residents of Montgomery County. The Steering Committee supports AAHI by volunteering hundreds of hours to strengthen AAHI’s programmatic efforts, advocating for AAHI’s constituency in meetings with key leaders and policymakers in Montgomery County, and serving as liaisons to external community workgroups serving the local government’s health, leadership, and Asian American outreach initiatives.
